Heather McGinniss, L.Ac. - Acupuncturist
I see myself as the healthcare practitioner who stands alongside my patients as they do the “everyday work” of healing. I ally myself with you regardless of your race, class, gender, or sexual identity. No matter who you are, you are safe in my treatment space.
I was born and raised in Philadelphia.
In 1999, I graduated summa cum laude from Temple University with a degree in Women’s Studies. Almost immediately after graduation, I landed a great desk job in a non-profit organization, intending it to be a temporary stop, as I figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up. I sat at the same desk for almost fifteen years, and continued to ask myself that question, gradually feeling drawn away from the comfort provided by corporate life, and pulled into the world of practicing some sort of medicine. I felt called to a life of service to others, but did not know what form that service would take.
I found Acupuncture and Asian Medicine during a time when I was struggling with my own health issues. The stress of staying in an unfulfilling job was overwhelming, and for several years I bounced from doctor to doctor and test to test, with no real answers for why I was feeling so crummy all of the time. Once I found Acupuncture, and felt the first needle, I knew that I needed to be a part of this medicine; my body rang like a bell, and I began to know what healing felt like in myself. It was an “aha” moment for me. This was to be my path to service to others. While it would be years before I could muster up the courage to quit my safe job in order to make such a drastic career change, in 2017, I began my journey, completing a 200 hour Vinyasa yoga teacher training, and starting the necessary prerequisites for Acupuncture school.
I graduated from the Won Institute of Graduate Studies in August of 2021 with my Master’s degree in Acupuncture Studies. I am licensed to practice acupuncture in the state of Pennsylvania.
